Support for Migrant Women in Brisbane
We Mind Community supports women from migrant and multicultural backgrounds to feel more connected, supported, and confident in everyday life.
We also support children and families where this strengthens women’s wellbeing and sense of belonging.
About and Mission
We Mind Community is a not-for-profit incorporated association based in Brisbane, Queensland. We exist to strengthen the wellbeing, confidence and connection of women from migrant, refugee and multicultural backgrounds and to support families where this improves women’s and children’s wellbeing.
Our mission is to create welcoming, culturally responsive pathways to information, support, belonging and growth. We do this through community programs, psychoeducation, group support, service navigation, trusted referrals and partnerships with other organisations.
We believe every woman deserves to feel safe, seen, respected and able to access support without shame or confusion. We value dignity, cultural identity, plain-language communication, collaboration and practical action. Our approach is strengths-based, respectful and community-led.
Services
We Mind Community offers community-based wellbeing and support services designed to reduce isolation, increase confidence and improve access to trusted help.
We currently offer:
Community programs and workshops
Practical sessions focused on wellbeing, life skills, and building confidence.
Psychoeducation
Accessible information about stress, emotions, relationships, parenting, and everyday mental wellbeing.
Group support
Small, welcoming group spaces for sharing experiences, learning together and building social connection in a respectful and culturally responsive environment.
Information and referral
Help to understand service options and connect with health, social, education, settlement, legal, family or specialist support services.
Family-inclusive support
Where appropriate, we include children or partners to support stronger outcomes for women and families.
Future Support
As We Mind Community grows, we plan to expand into counselling and other clinical or specialist services delivered by appropriately qualified practitioners. If future services become eligible for Medicare rebates, bulk billing or other public funding arrangements, we will publish clear information about eligibility, referrals, fees and availability before those services commence.
Who we support and eligibility
Our primary focus is women from migrant, refugee and multicultural backgrounds, including women whose first language is not English.
Depending on the program, our support may also extend to children, partners and families where this contributes to women’s wellbeing, family stability, healthy relationships, safety, participation and access to services.
Some activities may be open to a broad community audience. Other programs may prioritise particular groups based on factors such as location, life stage, funding criteria, language needs or referral pathway.
Eligibility can vary by program. If you are unsure whether a program is right for you, please contact us. We will do our best to help or connect you with a more suitable service.
How to access services
You can contact We Mind Community yourself, or someone can contact us with your consent.
We welcome:
- self-referrals
- referrals from GPs and other health professionals
- referrals from community organisations and settlement services
- referrals from schools, family support services, social workers and trusted partners
- enquiries from volunteers, community leaders and service providers who want to collaborate
For most community programs, a formal referral is not required. Once you contact us, we will let you know what support is available, whether there is a waitlist, and what the next steps look like.
If future clinical services become available, we will clearly explain whether you need a GP referral, a mental health treatment plan, Medicare eligibility, or any other documentation.
We Mind Community is not an emergency or crisis service.
