What is a Mastermind Group?

Mastermind groups are a great way for like-minded professionals to gain peer support, brainstorm new ideas, and establish accountability. It is goal-oriented and driven by success.

Masterminds are special because you meet with people at your professional level. Connecting with others who inspire you to achieve your goals makes this peer-to-peer mentoring model successful.

The idea of a “mastermind group” has been around for a long time – almost 80 years, to be exact, since 1937. Napoleon Hill, the author of self-help books Think and Grow Rich, as well as The Law of Success and The Magic Ladder to Success, established this concept and called it “mastermind alliance”.

Napoleon Hill believed that a third mind (the Master Mind) might be formed when two individuals worked together to share ideas and encourage one another. Hill based a lot of his arguments on his research of American corporations that utilised a mastermind model.

Hill also defined the idea of a mastermind alliance or group. When numerous batteries are connected to a single wire, the quantity of power the wire can convey rises according to the number of batteries linked.

The mastermind concept works similarly. Each individual’s mind encourages the other intellects in the room. Hill considered a mastermind group as a way to organise and consolidate useful knowledge for the benefit of those who need it.

If you want to go fast, go alone; if you want to go far, go together

African proverb

There are several types of mastermind groups available nowadays, depending on the industry or occupation, guided or self-led, virtual or in-person.

A mastermind community has several advantages, such as skill and experience sharing, mentoring and advising, learning from others and subsequently teaching others.

Accountability is the next benefit. Having a support system behind you encourages you to take responsibility for your actions and push yourself to improve.
